Sylvanian Families Nighty-Night Pies Recipe
Sylvanian Families Nighty Night Pies recipe
Ingredients:
◎ Cookie dough
100g unsalted butter
50g sugar
3 egg yolks
200g plain flour
Some cocoa powder
◎ 1 sheet frozen pastry
◎ Chocolate (We recommend long, thin fun size bars. You could also break pieces off a block of chocolate.)
◎ Chocolate pens (chocolate/white/pink)
Preparation:
1. Leave the butter out until it reaches room temperature, then add the sugar and mix well.
2. Add 2 egg yolks and mix well. Sift the flour and mix it in until the mixture is one big lump. Take a small amount of the mixture and mix in a little cocoa powder to make that mixture brown. This is the mixture for Ralph the Walnut Squirrel boy’s face.
3. Put the mixture in the fridge for about 1 hour. (Leaving the mixture to rest for a while allows the gluten to relax, so the mixture is less likely to become cracked or misshapen while it’s baking.)
4. Shape the cookie dough to make the characters’ faces. Use 1 or 2 pieces of chocolate to make each pillow. Put about 5g of cookie dough on each pillow and mould each piece of dough to make the faces. Make the ears and hands out of the rest of the dough and join them to the faces. (Don’t decorate them with the chocolate pens yet!)
5. Bake the cookie dough in the oven at 140-150°C for 6-7 minutes.
6. Take the pastry out of the freezer and let it sit for about 10 minutes until it reaches room temperature. Roll it gently with a rolling pin and then cut it into 3 pieces (make them all the same size.)
7. Put the pieces of chocolate for the pillows at the top of each piece of pastry.
8. When the cookie dough has cooled, put it on top. Fold up the bottom of the pastry to make the blanket. Tuck the edge in under the characters’ hands. Press the edges of the blankets (the places where the edges of the pastry are touching) together with a fork.
9. Beat the other egg yolk and spread it over the pastry to make a glaze. (Make sure you put some between the pastry and the characters’ hands so that they’ll stick!)
10. Put some foil over the pieces of cookie dough so they won’t change colour. Bake in the oven at 190-200°C for 10-13 minutes. (The right temperature and time depends on your oven.)
11. After they’ve finished baking and then cooled, draw on the faces with the chocolate pens. Lyra the Persian Cat girl’s face is white, so coat her whole face with the white chocolate pen before drawing the parts of her face. Draw on the parts of Freya the Chocolate Rabbit girl and Ralph the Walnut Squirrel boy’s face too. (It’s easiest if you start with the chocolate pen, then add the pink parts and lastly the white parts.)
